This brooch pairs an elongated oval openwork plaque with a softly domed pink cabochon stone set to one side. The pierced silver structure contains flowing botanical and linear motifs, enriched with blue-green enamel that settles into the recesses and accentuates depth. The polished bezel-set stone contrasts with the textured surface, introducing warmth, softness, and a clear focal point.
This piece forms part of my broader studio investigations into openwork construction, enamel surface treatment, and the emotional value of repurposed materials. I wanted the brooch to balance technical craft with personal narrative. The pink cabochon originally belonged to a hat pin owned by my great-grandmother. By reusing the stone within a contemporary brooch, I sought to carry a fragment of family history forward into a new form. The surrounding openwork structure suggests growth, memory, and continuity, while the enamel was used to deepen the surface and create a sense of age, atmosphere, and layered time. My intention was to create an object that is both ornament and remembrance—where inherited material becomes active again through contemporary making.
