Description

This pendant-brooch is fabricated in sterling silver and structured around a four-pointed geometric frame softened by floral curvature. Panels of translucent violet plique-à-jour enamel are suspended within the silver divisions, allowing light to move through the surface. Raised silver granules punctuate the composition, while a hinged lower segment introduces subtle movement and layered form. The piece functions as both wearable object and miniature architectural panel.

Within the research

This work formed part of my B-Tech practical investigation into tessellation, symmetry, and the integration of pattern with precious metal fabrication. In this piece I moved beyond purely geometric construction toward a dialogue between order and ornament. My intention was to merge the logic of repeated structural systems with the visual softness of historical decorative language. The floral central motif and radiating divisions draw on Gothic and Art Nouveau sensibilities, while the underlying organisation remains rooted in tessellated planning. The plique-à-jour enamel was chosen for its ability to transform solid metal into something luminous and atmospheric. Rather than treating enamel as surface colour alone, I used it as light-bearing material. The work therefore explores contrast between precision and delicacy, permanence and translucency, engineering and poetry.
