A bold sterling silver ring with a broad pavé-set surface of white cubic zirconia, interrupted by a sharply angled inlay of black resin framed in polished silver. The tapered dark form cuts across the luminous band like a directional mark in motion. Combining geometric precision with high contrast brilliance, the piece conveys speed, focus and controlled impact.
Dart explores direction, momentum and precision through the language of line, contrast and concentrated form. The title refers both to the projectile and to the sudden act of movement itself: a swift, intentional trajectory. This idea is translated into jewellery through a single dark wedge that pierces a field of light. The broad ring surface is densely pavé-set with white cubic zirconia, creating a continuous texture of shimmer. Rather than functioning merely as ornament, the stones form an atmospheric ground — a field of energy, motion or suspended particles. Across this luminous surface, the black resin element moves diagonally with clarity and purpose. It becomes the decisive gesture within the composition. The black inlay is framed by polished silver, emphasising its sharp geometry and giving it the visual authority of an inserted vector. The contrast between dark matte depth and surrounding brilliance creates tension between stillness and acceleration, void and light, silence and impact. In this way, the ring investigates how minimal intervention can transform an otherwise uniform field. Although geometric in appearance, the form is also psychological. Dart considers moments of commitment: when thought becomes action, hesitation becomes decision, and energy becomes direction. The black form therefore operates as both arrow and threshold — the instant where movement begins. The work was developed through personal design intention supported by AI-assisted visualisation during the concept stage. AI was used to test the relationship between angled interruption, surface density, proportion and contrast. However, the final object required hand manufacture, technical judgement and careful resolution of pavé setting, resin inlay, structural thickness and ergonomic comfort. The ring also reflects my interest in jewellery that appears simple at first encounter yet reveals complexity through surface and proportion. From a distance, it reads as a clean modern form. On closer inspection, the pavé field, precise inlay and shifting reflections create layered visual activity.
